Cambrian College To Trial Year-Round Education

SUDBURY, ON –  An increase in enrolment, particularly from international students, is prompting Cambrian College to try a year-round approach to the academic year.

This year, for the first time, Cambrian will be accepting students for a semester that starts in May. Two programs have been identified: the two-year Practical Nursing program and the one-year Project Management (Graduate Certificate) program.

“Our enrolment numbers are at a ten-year high and we’ve had a dramatic increase in our international students. We’re finding that many of our students, particularly our international students, want the flexibility to start their college education in the spring, as opposed to the fall and winter,” explains Jean Brown, Cambrian’s Vice-President of Academics. “We’ll try this approach for these two programs as they seem like a good fit for this approach. If this is successful, we will consider expanding the number of programs with a May start.”

Cambrian’s Practical Nursing program prepares graduates for careers in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community agencies. The skill set of Practical Nurses is an ideal fit for the ongoing evolution of the health care system, which is placing more emphasis on community-based care and home care.

Cambrian’s Project Management program prepares graduates for careers in project leadership. Project Management skills are becoming increasingly important in the public and private sectors as businesses and organizations seek to complete major projects, on time and on budget.

In addition to launching a new semester in May, Cambrian College is also introducing seven new programs for September 2018. They include Business Analytics, Crime Analytics, Health Analytics, Community and Health Services Navigation, Social Services Worker – Indigenous Specialization, Environmental Technician, and Mobile Application Development. A number of these programs are unique to Cambrian.
