Volunteers Preparing To Give Their Neighbours A SCARE!

MANITOUWADGE, ON – Monday, October 15th, Community Services Programmer Reene Warren and Director of Community Services Shawna Patterson had their final meeting with volunteers in preparation for the Haunted Walk being held to celebrate Halloween.

Events like the Haunted Walk, in addition to providing entertainment and fun for residents, offer important opportunities for young people.  Elementary and high school students are among the volunteers who have been working with Warren and Patterson to prepare the Haunted Walk and they are involved for more than just fun.  This type of volunteerism allows young people to earn community hours (necessary for high school students to receive their Ontario Secondary School Diploma), learn about organizing special events, meet new people, develop teamwork and leadership skills just to name a few of the benefits.

The Haunted Walk is just $5/person and will be open from 6-9pm, Saturday, October 27th at the Manitouwadge High School. Children 6-10yrs of age can walk through a lighter version of the Haunted walk from 6-7pm after which (from 7-9pm) lights are out and walkers be warned – it will be frightening!  Visitors under 12 yrs of age need to be accompanied by an adult or have a signed consent from their parent/guardian.

In addition to the Haunted Walk, community services is hosting a Children’s Truck and Treat in the Recreation Centre Parking Lot on Saturday as well as a Pumpkin Carving Contest (see images below).

Pumpkin contest entries can be claimed after judging OR left in which case they will be brought to the High School and used as decor for the Haunted Walk Saturday evening.

Hope to see everyone next weekend for these frightfully fun Halloween events!
