LU Hosting Northwestern Ontario Palliative Care Booster

THUNDER BAY, ON Teaming up for Whole-Person Care – the 2019 Northwestern Ontario Palliative Care Booster – takes place October 24 and 25 in Thunder Bay at Delta Hotels by Marriot.

Lakehead University’s Centre for Education and Research on Aging & Health (CERAH) and the North West Regional Palliative Care Program at St. Joseph’s Care Group will be hosting the two-day conference.

The event will focus on sharing and strengthening the work of a variety of interdisciplinary approaches to palliative care, and on identifying the tools and resources available to support a whole-person, team-approach to care.

Physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, dietitians, administrators, educators, students and social service workers are among a diverse range of health care providers who will be attending the event.

Dr. Robert Sauls of the Ontario Palliative Care Network is the opening keynote speaker. As the lead in developing Ontario’s Palliative Care Health Services Delivery Framework (released in April 2019), he will be describing its significance to palliative care service delivery, and the impact the Delivery Framework will have on patients and on health care professionals in Northwestern Ontario.

Other presentations include the Anishinabek approach to palliative care, and the regional care delivery systems taking place in smaller communities, such as Atikokan and Geraldton.
