OPP CHARGE PROHIBITED DRIVER on Highway 17 in White River

WHITE RIVER, ON – On March 24, 2020, at approximately 1:45 p.m., a member of the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed an eastbound minivan dragging its muffler on Highway 17 in White River Township. 

The vehicle was stopped in White River and investigation into the driver revealed that he was prohibited from driving. As a result of the investigation, [Edited by ONN] a male, 61 years of age, from Regina, Saskatchewan, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Drive motor vehicle not equipped with an approved ignition interlock device while prohibited from doing so, contrary to section 41.2(13) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 8, 2020, in Wawa.
