TERRACE BAY, ON – On December 17, 2020, the Grade 7/8 class of St. Martin Catholic School organized the second annual Holiday Hoopla.

The Holiday Hoopla is a Christmas carnival event that is held every year in the school’s gymnasium. There are always a lot of fun games and activities for the students to enjoy. The events included a craft station, a “Minute-to-win-it” station, a photo booth, a hockey target shoot, a skeeball game, a penny auction, a guessing jar, and a wheel of fortune.

The Holiday Hoopla is also a fundraiser and all the money that was raised was donated to North Shore Harvest Cupboard, the local food bank. All events were priced from 50¢ to $2.00. The Grade 7/8 class was able to raise $668.00.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the class had to follow the restrictions and plan accordingly. Instead of allowing all classes to come at once, each class was assigned a time slot. In normal circumstances, parents are invited to join in the festivities, however, due to COVID-19 precautionary measures, they were not able to attend. The Grade 7/8 class is looking forward to planning the Holiday Hoopla next year and continuing to make a difference in the community.

Additionally, St. Martin’s participated in Spirit Days for the month of December where students and staff were encouraged to participate and donate a non-perishable food item. We were able to donate almost 68lbs of non-perishable food items in addition to the $668.00 that the Holiday Hoopla raised for the North Shore Harvest Cupboard.
