Ideal Conditions at Kiwissa Past Weekend + Forecast for Coming Weekend (Updated)

MANITOUWADGE, ON – Skiers and snowboarders from Manitouwadge, as well as visitors from other parts of the province, enjoyed a spectacular weekend at Kiwissa.

Friday’s night skiing was extended to 9:00 (from originally scheduled 8:30pm). In addition that fun, a campfire was lit with free hotdogs shared by Community Services. Though it was mild out (+2 at opening, -3 by closing) a thin icy top layer made for faster conditions as the evening progresesed.

Saturday and Sunday descents slowed due to the continued warm weather of 0 to +5 throughout the day however, mild temperatures had skiers and snowboarders more likely to need sunscreen than balaclavas.

The warm weather is melting the snow, exposing some rocky patches however, thanks to the considerable work all season, by ski hill mechanic Lou Paleczny, and his staff (most from MHS), have done including; creating a base of artificial snow at the beginning of the season, significant shovelling and maintenance of the t-bar track and regular grooming of the hill throughout the season) overall conditions at Kiwissa are very good.

2021/22 Ski hill staff/supervisors have been complimented repeatedly by users for their friendly and professional demeanours, their limitless patience for those learning to use the grip-tow and t-bar, and their willingness to work during the pandemic allowing Manitouwadge residents and visitors to stay active skiing or snowboarding.

Environment Canada has forecasted snowfall this week (there is a chance there’ll be rain Friday, thankfully followed by 70% chance of snow Saturday) which could compensate for recent melting and see the coming weekend offer more great skiing and snowboarding conditions!
