Missing Person Located by Greenstone Police

GERALDTON, ON –  On June 12, 2022 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Greenstone Detachment received a call about a missing 68-year-old who was believed to be in Nakina, Ontario.

The individual was hiking on a snowshoeing trail when they become separated from another person. They had not been seen since approximately 8:00 p.m.

OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and the Canine Unit were deployed to assist in the search for the missing person. He was located by ERT in good health, and was transported to Geraldton District Hospital for further assessment.

Carrying a fully-charged cell phone or GPS phone allows you to call the police if lifesaving assistance is needed. Members of the public are also advised to download the What3Words app which provides more accurate location details than traditional GPS. This app can be used by the Provincial Communications Centre to locate individuals who become lost and are still able to contact the police.
