1st Day of Summer kicks off Summer of FREE Swimming!

Keisha Drapeau works with a welcoming smile offering Free 'freezies' in addition to the beverages for sale.

MANITOUWADGE, ON – Wednesday, June 21st, the Township of Manitouwadge hosted it’s Annual First Day of Summer festivities from the lawn of the Recreation Centre outside their outdoor facility, the Oasis Swimming Pool.

The evening ran from 5-8pm including the usual barbecue and pool games as well as free swimming and a few new activities – free bubble blowing fun and and ‘chalk on the walk’ bordering the lawn in front of the pool where tables accomodated those not using their own blanquets to picnic directly in front of the pool fence (opened to allow direct access for those who participated in the many of different games for all ages).

The occasion kicked off something very exciting for everyone who will be in Manitouwadge during Summer 2011, FREE SWIMMING at the Oasis pool now continues throughout the entire summer. Lessons and private rentals continue to have the usual fees but ALL OTHER SWIMMING at the Oasis Pool is FREE. “We just can’t compete with the beach and wanted to ensure the kids had a safe, supervised place to cool off throughout the summer” said Community Programmer Shawna Patterson, very proud to share such an opportunity with residents and visitors to Manitouwadge. The schedule includes open swims, family swims, and times where inflatables or other equipment can be used, a very wide range of swims all at no cost. “We believe this will be a unique opportunity that encourages visitors to come and enjoy all Manitouwadge has to offer” explained Patterson “Area families can come for the day to swim, enjoy our beautiful outdoor pool which includes 3’6 to 12ft depths, diving boards and the large ‘baby pool’ then shop downtown, play a round of golf or enjoy one of the many restaurants or mobile food vendors that are located around Manitouwadge”.

Patterson reminds those planning to visit Manitouwadge that though the hotel is no longer in operation (entrepreneurs/buisiness ppl keep watching for details of hotel sale to be released shortly by twp), the community does have may accomodations providers, everything from rental homes priced around the same as area hotel rooms to Bed & Breakfasts and outfitters offering fishing and ATV excursions.

Friends are happy to reconnect and celebrate a summer of free swimming kicking off!
