Book Publising Progress

I am feeling very good about my  recent progress towards having the Emeraude Exploring collection completed and published. Don’t let this give the wrong impression, you won’t be finding it at Chapters next week lol, but it is definitely moving forward in a very real way.

This afternoon, I brought the prints for Emeraude Exploring: The Dentist(click on that or visit my Downloads page  listed above) to the EDC hoping to trim them (I’ve misplaced my own cutter) and of course Karin & Dave did not disappoint (they rarely do).  Not only did Karen let me use her paper cutter (this was a little tricky but went fairly well) but she, without pause, took on the task of keeping Emeraude entertained while I got the pages trimmed. (I now regret not having my camera along to take a few photos and am realizing I would like to be taking more ‘regular life’ photos to better illustrate my blog. Plus, the EDC crew of two are quite good looking folks and so would definitely be a nice addition to this post had I thought to bring & use it *sheesh, hindsight*

Dave treated me to a sneak preview of their new site – it’s going to be chock full of useful information. I dare say that in my opinion the best (most useful and user friendly definitely) web site that Manitouwadge (or the EDC) has had! {click here to visit the current Play in the Extreme website} I may be less than objective however as Karen, has once again come through for me, offering to have me contribute photographs to the site and I’m really excited about the possibilities there.  She really is wonderful about remembering me when she has things that are relevant to my talents (makes me feel like I’m visiting Dubreuilville lol). As soon as they have it up and running I will be sending out a group mailing in Wadgeians (my facebook group for past & present residents of Manitouwadge which now has some 700+ members) as I think many people will be stoked about finally having somewhere to find relevant and current info for events and services as well as having a site to refer friends to that might be considering a vacation or house purchase in Manitouwadge.

ANYHOW, back to the publishing progress update…

My manuscript (I call it a good draft, it seems odd to call a peice of a potential board book collection a ‘manuscript’ lol) is almost complete. I need only bind it an it will be ready (click on the downloads link above to find the Ebook version of Emeraude Exploring: The Dentist you can even print a copy for your little one and let me know what they think – I’d love to have some reviews)

My CV is pretty much done, it is also on the downloads link above. I tried to keep it relevant to my photography/writing/plublished works experience as I believe that is what they are asking for at Second Story Press.

I delivered our visit request along with a digital copy of the 1st book to Jen, Post Master at our local post office and she told me today that her superior will be in tomorrow and she plans to share it with him then. I also got a kick out of the fact that she was kind enough to take the time to look at the book (I didn’t expect that) and she seemed to enjoy it which was cool. So fingers crossed and start praying on that one please 🙂

I had sent a visit request and digital copy of the 1st book to Fire Chief Owen at the Manitouwadge Fire Department as well. I explained to him that the collection was focused on exploring the many roles of women in the working world and he was quite helpful in this regard, suggesting not only a female firefighter that he will be speaking with to give Emeraude the tour of the fire department but also Emeraude’s aunt who works both at the local airport and running a mill (we had her on our list) which really did alot to encourage me that this project had the potential to be successful and that people would ‘get it’ and want to participate.

We mailed out our letter to Dr. Karin yesterday (again along with a digital copy of the 1st book) and I am looking forward to hearing from her to schedule our visit to the Clinic.

I spoke with the EDC today about their help with my cover letter and Dave seemed quite happy to be of assistance (I was not sure if it would be considered part of their job description and was relieved when they said it was) and I look forward to working with him on it as I am certain it will be much better with his input.

I also continue to work on the real meat of the project…

Emeraude & I brainstormed at lunch regarding the titles that will be included in this collection (we also hope to have an Emeraude Exploring Sports collection as well as a Emeraude Exploring Nature and possibly Seasons collections) and I was pleasantly surprised (as usual with my kids) at her input. It was nice also that Lloyd had some ideas to contribute – he is quite imaginative and I always appreciate his input.

I also worked on the story lines for a few of the books in this first collection that I hope we will be photography soon and want to be well prepared in case any of my call backs do so without much notice before wanting us to come in.

So, that’s the progression so far in a nutshell. I am really hoping to get the letter off to Second Story Press before the end of April but do not want to compromise quality in a rush to get it in. I am very aware of continuity becoming an issue if we have extended lapses between the photography of each book and this is why I am not waiting to have details figured out with a publisher before continuing to push forward. Prayers welcome!

On a totally unrelated note, I was pleasantly surprised just now to log into twitter and realize that the Tweet plug-in I installed into my blog this weekend is working!!! WOOHOO! which means I have tweets being updated whenever I make a new post here without ever needing to log into my Twitter account to maintain it 🙂
