Preparing for T.Bay @ MGH

I hoped to have Lloyd get his cast removed before leaving for Thunder Bay. Sunday I was going to bring him in but the nurse on emergency recommended that he wait to have it removed until an x-ray could be done as follow up during the same visit (makes good sense but I didn’t think of it). So Monday at my last visit to the er for pain meds before leaving town, Lloyd came along (as did Vickie and Emeraude which made it entertaining J) and was seen as well.

It was quite smelley under there as Emeraude found out when she took a look just a bit too close lol

The nurse was incredibly patient with all of us wanting to come along as she cut the cast off to watch (obviously I’m his Mom so that’s not a problem but she certainly didn’t have to go along with Emeraude & Vickie coming as well so it was nice that she did not mind…) Vickie was very interested as she had never seen a cast removed before and Emeraude of course likes to supervise any medical procedures and anything being done to her brother.

The nurse touched the vibrating ‘saw’ to show us all how it does not cut skin but only cast (too cool!)

The cast was rather difficult to take off even after she had cut it. She repeatedly tried using a pry type tool with no luck and was getting pretty frustrated. Finally Lloyd decided to just pull his arm out. It took him some work but the cast came off, he was free! lol. At that point I felt pretty comfortable that his wrist/hand must be fine otherwise he would’ve certainly had some pain pulling and twisting to get out of the cast.

Emeraude was impressed with the whole process and quite proud of her brother for being the one to finally get the cast off. I was surprised at how grimy his hand & arm seemed to be. I’m also dissapointed that his wrist bone still seems out of place compared to his other arm (and I have stared at them prior to this when he hurt himself on other occasions). I’m assuming that if the x-rays were not satisfactory we would have been called but feeling like that making such an assumption is not terribly pro-active and I plan to call and make an appointment for him with his doctor this week.
