Inclement weather did not deter spectators of the Manitouwadge High School Athletic Association’s open beach volleyball tournament this weekend as crowds came armed with sunscreen, umbrellas and even blankets to brave temperatures which continued to fluctuate severely throughout the two day event.

Twelve, 3 person teams played a 2 pool round robin style tourney at the Lion’s beach and the Aquatic Driving Range Beach, both on Manitouwadge Lake. The fundraiser was held to assist a local cancer survivor , a young man who was once an MHS athlete himself, with the ongoing costs of his courageous fight against the disease.

In addition to entry fees; hot dogs and hamburgers were sold, bringing the charity event’s two day total to over $1300. In a hard-played final game; Jose Knee, Brent Campbell, and Jordan Keough spiked victorious winning against Kurtis Jung, Thomas Milks, and Emilio Knee earning the aforementioned team bragging rights as winners of the tournament.
