Funeral Service in Manitouwadge

If you live or have lived  in Manitouwadge during the last 30-40 years you most certainly knew of Cathy Nickerson, in some capacity. She was the kind of person that ‘everybody knows’ because her warmth of spirit just had a way of drawing people in to want to know her. She lived here for many years, raising her children who are now adults with children of their own (all of which she loved so dearly and of which she was so proud) and opened her heart to so many who weren’t hers biologically but whom she councelled if needed, supported and offered wisdom and that is how she earned the nickname of “Mum”.

In December of 2008, Cathy passed away.  She is missed dearly and I still catch myself when downtown, looking around, expecting to see her dressed to the nines (as she always was, so proper and polished) hoping to fill her in on what the kids and I are doing and eager to hear of what Carolyn, Tony, Sherrie, or Gary are busy with or what news she has of their kids to proudly share… But alas, our little town is no longer graced by her presence.

Her daughter Sherrie wrote this on a Facebook group that was created in her memory:

Thank you to Cathy's daughter Sherry for this beautiful photo of her Mom & Aunt. (Cathy is on the right)

March 21 1936- dec. 25 2008
Cathy sadly passed away on the 25th of dec with her children at her bedside after a very brief battle with cancer. Jesus wanted a special gift for his birthday and he chose my Mum.
My Mum was the most amazing women I have ever known. She loved life and one of her favorite things to do was to socialize with people. She touched many lives with her tender loving ways and her wit.
I will miss our morning coffee together at a special place she loved to go.
She will be missed by so many people but we will always have beautiful memories to hold dear…”

August 5th, 2009 @ 11:00am
