MBA Business Beat

 MANITOUWADGE BUSINESS BEAT

April 2010/1

Louis Bérubé, Owner Bikes 'n Stuff

Welcome to the inaugural edition!  Each month, Manitouwadge business happenings will be announced, plus an MBA member will be showcased.  Member or not, your  input is welcomed!  Please contact Maggie Schut at 826-4626/ hawberryfields@shaw.ca. Suggestions and constructive criticism are encouraged.

The MBA formed over the ‘09/’10 winter through a series of breakfast meetings facilitated by our Economic Development Office.  We are in a fledgling stage, and ask for your patience while we begin our journey.  Starting this month, meetings will alternate between morning and evening to accommodate as many businesses as possible.  So, mark your calendars for 7AM May 18th, and 7 PM June 15th in the Council Chambers.  Advance agendas from Karen Robinson at the EDO: 826-3227×240/ karen@manitouwadge.ca. Non-members are invited without fear of initiation!

In the May Business Beat you will likely see confirmation that we are going to hold a Trade Show this August.  Anyone interested now in being put on the list for an Exhibitor Pkg may contact the writer.  Plans are also in the works for a monthly Outdoor Saturday Market June thru September – location pending.  In June the MBA will be announcing the formation of its
Executive, along with a Purpose Statement. It is not our intent to be as structured and bureaucratic as a Chamber of Commerce; more to be an approachable association of businesses who genuinely care about the future of Manitouwadge, striving to make every effort for growth and prosperity.  Challenging!

SHOWCASE:
BIKES AND STUFF
– Owner:  Louis Berube

Chances are if over this winter you were in need of a heavier coat, a new snow machine suit, snowshoes for the grandkids, badminton lessons, or a pair of authentic Crocs for your vacation south, you know Louis Berube!  He is the owner and sole employee of Freehawk Enterprises, dba Bikes and Stuff in Hallmarket Square.  2300 sq. ft. of  safety workwear, Mustang floatwear, Merrell footwear, badminton gear, and  Skechers “shape up” shoes (coming soon).  Plus a thriving reputable bicycle sales and service centre!

An original Wadgian, Louis worked at the (then) Bay Store as a teen, assembling bikes and gaining valuable repair knowledge.  That knowledge increased during some away years touring many parts of the world on two wheels.  His jaunt through South America is a particular highlight. Bike repairs became second nature. Returning to Manitouwadge in 1997, he started the business from home, moving downtown in 2007.  Now, his reputation and customer base has expanded to Marathon, White River, and beyond!

In touch with the needs of the community, a genuine connection with customers and their values, quality products, plus high work ethics and service standards only proves that Bikes And Stuff is a valuable spoke in the wheel of Manitouwadge business!
