McGuinty Government Creating Opportunities For At-Risk Youth

This summer, more than 4,600 youth from 32 priority communities across the province are getting the chance to gain valuable job experience. The jobs are being offered through the Youth Opportunities Strategy, which helps at-risk youth gain skills and experience with local employers and police services.

The summer employment program is delivered by not-for-profit agencies who match youth with local employers while participating police services recruit youth who are interested in a career in policing. Youth participating in the program are given one week of training, a six to seven-week paid job placement, and preparation for future employment or education and training.

The Youth Opportunities Strategy builds on the McGuinty government’s five-year Open Ontario plan to create new opportunities for skills training and jobs.
