911 Call to Fire on Industrial Rd Mtwdge

MANITOUWADGE, ON – July 8th at approximately 16:30 (4:30pm) Melissa Gionet was driving by Vezeau’s Garage on Industrial Road when she noticed smoke escaping from a pile of partially split firewood.
At 17:30 Gionet observed that smoke was becoming thicker and it looked like there may be a small fire. Unsure how the fire started, Gionet was certain that it was time to take action and stopped to call 911 to alert authorities of the possible fire.
By this time the tires of the wood splitter beside the log pile were on fire. Ontario Provincial Police were the first she observed attending the scene, a policeman used a fire extinguisher, keeping the fire from creeping up the log splitter to its gas tank. Soon after the fire rescue truck came arrived, needing to cut a chain which was holding the gate closed before being able to access the scene.
Shortly after the arrival of fire crews, Gionet left the scene, not wanting to obstruct the work of emergency personnel though she did manage to take some great photos for OntarioNewsNorth.com, with her cell phone, before leaving.
