MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday July 3rd, 2010 the Manitouwadge Museum hosted their 2nd Annual Hillbilly Days.  Despite a heavy downpour of rain just prior to starting we decided to go ahead with events as planned and keep our fingers crossed that the rain would hold out until festivities wrapped up.

The crowd was small but spirits were high and though the stormy weather caused a power outage, attendees and organizers enthusiasm more than compensated for lack of electricity.

The band decided to hold a jam session until a very generous participant donated the use of her generator, they played as an on-site BBQ fueled hungry Hillbillies.

A variety of games were enjoyed by all with many prizes throughout the day provided by both the museum and the Public Health Unit (Shirley Stopyra), who held an information booth on skin and sun safety penned Skin Savvy.

A booth with temporary tattoos, set up by Val and Mark Hawksbee, was popular throughout the afternoon as many visitors received body art from the wide selection the Hawksbees had available.

The rain and lack of electricity did not deter our group of would-be Hillbillies – after all for hillbillies, rain may be the only time “some of us git clean water ta shower in”.

With a body full of tattoos, a belly full of vittles and some good listening in my ears, I invite everyone to come back next year and bring friends and family as well! Meanwhile, visit the Manitouwadge Museum often, you’ll find something new each time you do, and watch OntarioNewsNorth.com for news of upcoming museum events.
