Charges Laid in Cold Cases from 1985 to 1987

(THUNDER BAY, ON) Between 1985 and 1987 the Thunder Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a number of incidents in which a male wearing a disguise and at times brandishing a weapon entered homes and sexually assaulted the female residents. During a two year period police investigated 5 of these incidents in Conmee, Hagey and Scoble Townships outside the City of Thunder Bay.

In late 1987 a male subject was arrested and charged in relation to these incidents but at the subsequent preliminary hearing in 1989 the charges were discharged.

In 2007 the OPP Northwest Region Crime Unit and the OPP Forensic Identification Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch reviewed all of these cases. Police conducted additional interviews, reviewed evidence in their possession and conducted additional forensic testing.

As a result of this follow up investigation police arrested Donald MILANI age 62 of Ignace, Ontario August 17, 2010. MILANI has been charged with 19 offences under the Criminal Code: 4 counts of Break and Enter, 5 counts of Sexual Assault, 4 counts of Wearing a Disguise while Committing an Indictable Offence, 4 counts of Forcible Confinement and 2 counts of Robbery. 

MILANI has been released and will appear in Superior Court in Thunder Bay on August 30, 2010.
