Connie Williams Memorial Golf Tournament

MCAG Fundraiser a Success
by Karina Hunter

MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday, August 14th the Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group (MCAG) hosted the 7th Annual Connie Williams Memorial Golf Tournament at the Manitouwadge Golf Club. Nearly 100 golfers came together to raise funds for the MCAG, a local non-profit which provides funds for those touched by cancer.

After a full day of golfing, everyone re-grouped in the Manitouwadge Community Clubhouse, overlooking the 9-hole course, for a Prime Rib dinner, awards and to wrap-up the silent auction which had been receiving bids throughout the day.

Claire Milks, MCAG Committee Member, addressed those gathered, introducing her committee co-members which were in attendance and taking the opportunity to thank the many businesses, organizations and individuals who contributed to the tournaments’ success including Dave Raymond, Karen Robinson, Shawna Patterson, Twp of Manitouwadge & Staff, Manitouwadge Golf Club & Staff, Kelly & Mark Gorges, The Echo, Rob MacKinnon, Leonard & Lise LaChapelle, the many families & friends who provided items for the silent auction and all those who participated. Milks also reminded everyone that, for those touched by cancer, garnering assistance from the MCAG is as simple as writing a letter to any one of the committee members: President Anne Williams; Vice-President Jackie Jung; Secretary Debbie Ray; Treasurer Darlene Tessier; Betty Oksanen; Priscilla Gray; Nickie Chik; Shelley Hogan; Flo Campbell; or herself adding that the request for assistance can also be written by a friend or family member.

MCAG Volunteer Claire Milks addresses the golfers.

Winning closest to the hole on #3, to  earn himself a 40” Flatscreen television provided by Northest Insurance and Northern Lights Ford was Brooke Newton. Newton was also a member of the day’s winning team;  Jim McCauley’s team tied for best score though only the #1 team is awarded with all remaining  teams choosing their prizes by random selection afterwards. Everyone took something home for their participation in the wonderful event.

Congratulations to all those who won their bids at the silent auction, a total amount of funds raised has not yet been received but will be added here when it is.
