OPP Investigate at Request of Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service

POLICE INVESTIGATE SUDDEN DEATH

(Thunder Bay, ON) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch, at the request of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, is investigating the sudden death of a male at Cat Lake.

On the evening of September 9, 2010 an officer from the Cat Lake Detachment of Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service responded to the report of a disturbance at the community nursing station.

Upon arrival at the nursing station police were confronted by an agitated male. The officer attempted to arrest the male and a struggle ensued. With the assistance of a second officer, the suspect was successfully taken into police custody.

Shortly after being taken into police custody the male suspect went into medical distress. Medical assistance was provided to the male however he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The OPP investigation is being conducted under the direction of Detective Inspector Dan Davidson of the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch.

The deceased has been identified as thirty four (34) year old Romeo Gerald WESLEY of Cat Lake First Nation.

A post mortem examination is expected to take place in Toronto on September 13, 2010.
