OPP Investigate Unscheduled Landing of Aircraft

OPP INVESTIGATE AN UNSCHEDULED LANDING OF AIRCRAFT

(PICKLE LAKE, ON) – Pickle Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the Pickle Lake Airport on September 10, 2010 at approximately 1:34pm after the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) had reported an aircraft going down in the bush.

The aircraft belonging to Northern Water Works Sales and Consulting Inc., a company based out of Red Lake, had stopped in Pickle Lake to refuel before heading to Kashchewan. Shortly after take off the pilot was experiencing engine trouble and at approximately 1:22pm air traffic control was notified that he was turning the aircraft around to head back to Pickle Lake. Approximately 27 miles east of Pickle Lake at 1:30pm, the pilot was forced to make an unscheduled landing in the bush near the Muskeg.

The pilot along with three other passengers from the aircraft, all from Red Lake, walked away from the site. The JRCC was on scene and transported all parties by helicopter back to Pickle Lake Airport where they were met by the Pickle Lake EMS and transported to the clinic to be assessed for injuries.

Two of the four occupants sustained minor injuries and no injuries to the other passengers or crew. The Pilot and the passengers later returned back to the Pickle Lake Airport for their return flight to Red Lake.
