Illegal Moose Hunt in Terrace Bay

 

$2,500 Fine For Hunting Violations

A St. George hunter was fined a total of $2,500 for unlawfully transferring a moose seal and obstructing a conservation officer.

James Kruis pleaded guilty to unlawfully transferring a component of a licence and was fined $1,500.  He also pleaded guilty to obstructing a conservation officer and was fined $1,000. In addition, his big game hunting licence was suspended for two years.

The court heard that Kruis attempted to thwart an investigation into illegal moose hunting in Terrace Bay by making false statements and unlawfully transferring his game seal to a hunter in Terrace Bay.

Justice of the Peace Paul Macphail heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Brantford, on September 29, 2010.
