Geotech Ltd. Fined For Littering Near Timmins

Exploration Company Fined $3000 for Littering

A mining exploration company has been fined $3000.00 after pleading guilty to littering on Crown land in the Timmins area.

Geotech Ltd. of Aurora pleaded guilty to depositing material on Crown land contrary to the Public Lands Act.

Court heard that on July 21, 2009 a Ministry of Natural Resources technician discovered six abandoned Jet A fuel drums on Crown land in Zavitz Township south of Timmins.  It was determined that Geotech Ltd. had conducted mining exploration in that area from January 23, 2008 to February 4, 2008 and had abandoned the fuel drums after the exploration work was completed.  One of the abandoned fuel drums was still full of fuel.  Geotech Ltd. recovered all of the fuel drums by helicopter before their court date as requested by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Justice of the Peace Dolores Boyuk heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, City of Timmins, on September 30, 2010.
