MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday, December 18th the 3rd Annual Alumni Game for the Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group, organized by Toby Mattson was held.  This year’s game including a presentation remembering the 1976-77 Manitouwadge Midget Flyers, who had won the Thunder Bay District Championship and travelled to Moncton, New Brunswick competing in the National Wrigley Tournament and retiring of the jersey of 76 Flyers teammate Ken Fairservice who passed away in 1977. 

Mattson was very pleased with the support shown by all involved in the annual game including, the players: 

 

 and referees, Charles Newton and Andrew Keough; the sponsor businesses; and many volunteers behind the scenes including Kaitlyn Newton and Thomas Brandt who worked the popcorn machine all afternoon and several of the MCAG Ladies who kept everything outside the arena running smoothly. 

The afternoon also included intermission entertainment for fans like a Goober Game (Copper Kings future all-stars), Chuck-a-puck, skills competition, Shoot for a TV, and more.  

When Mattson, who is a casual hockey player with a full time off-ice job, was asked why he organizes the Annual Alumni game, he explained that the Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group is one he believes in. “I have lost friends to cancer and appreciate the work done by the MCAG to help people in our community while they are fighting cancer” said Mattson, adding that “It is great to see the community come together and I hope to continue organizing the Alumni Game for many years to come”.

The Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group was very thankful to Mattson and everyone involved for their efforts and generosity, which raised more than $3,200!  MCAG President, Anne Williams thanked everyone who participated, played and volunteered saying that “it was a great event and Toby once again did an amazing job. We are truly blessed to live in an amazing community that continue to keep on giving.”
