The student body at ST. Hilary’s School in Red Rock was buzzing with literacy- based activities, in celebration of National Family Literacy Day on the 27th. The kindergarten class began the creation of  an ‘Alphabet  Big Book’.  Assisted by the grade 7/8 class they were involved and excited  with their results. Together the two classes viewed the ‘BOOK VIDEO’ .

The grade 5/6 class joined the 3-4 class in the library for a scrabble marathon. Many words were used and even some that they had to check out.

Grade 1’s and 2’s played literacy -based board games and had lots of fun trying to implement strategies to win. Some of the games were old faithfuls like ‘snakes and ladders’, except with words and numbers.

Several grade 7/8 students read to the younger students  in French as well as English.

At the end  of the day,  a list of ideas, for parents and guardians, was sent home so that the literacy could enhance programs and continue practices already in place.
