NIPIGON/SCHREIBER OPP Weekend Review

IMPAIRED DRIVER LOCATED AND ARRESTED

NIPIGON, ON. –During the weekend of March 11 to March 14, 2011 Nipigon / Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 23 calls for service and issued 25 Provincial Offence Notices.  Officers conducted 9 R.I.D.E. checks and investigated 3 motor vehicle collisions.

During the early morning hours of Monday March 14 Schreiber OPP responded to a call of a single motor vehicle collision on Peary Street, Schreiber.  At 3:15 a.m. officers arrived at the scene and observed a red Ford sport utility vehicle with damage.   There were three occupants in the vehicle at the time of the collision.  One male passenger was transported to McCausland Hospital for minor injuries.  The driver fled the scene of the collision and with the assistance of local residents, was located by police at a nearby residence.  The driver was found to be impaired by alcohol.  The 18 year old male driver, Timothy CHEPPENKO, of Thunder Bay, Ontario was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 milligrams of Blood Alcohol Content, contrary to the Criminal Code.  The driver was further charged with Fail to Remain contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

CHEPPENKO is to appear in Schreiber court on May 4, 2011 to answer to these charges.
