Terrace Bay Picture Challenge

One of the Previous Picture Challenge Winners by Patricia McGrath

TERRACE BAY, ON – The Township recently launched a picture challenge which is open to residents and visitors in order to showcase the Community.  Pictures can be of any season or any subject and can be entered within the two categories of

  1. Local attractions – the main attractions in our community that attract visitors (ex. lighthouse, falls, etc.); or
  2. Community living – the activities and sights that show off Terrace Bay to residents & tourists (ex. kayaking, Dragfest, etc).

The purpose of the picture challenge is to celebrate the skills of area photographers while at the same time showing off the uniqueness of our community in Municipal marketing.

The picture challenge will build on the success of the North Shore Picture Challenge held as part of the Community Adjustment Process in 2007.  Special Projects Co-ordinator Sean Irwin says “We have found the best way to market our community is through the eyes of residents and visitors. The picture challenge is a way to ask photographers to grant us the right to use their photos to market the community, which could be anywhere from the Municipal website to highway signs to brochures.  This year we are especially hoping to get some pictures of the new lighthouse and improvements to Simcoe Plaza while at the same time some more great photos of things like the Slate Islands Caribou.”

The picture challenge is open to everyone – residents, neighbouring communities, and tourists.  Pictures can be submitted by email to info@terracebay.ca or by CD at the Terrace Bay Municipal Office.  Rules and registration forms for entry can be found online at www.terracebay.ca/pics.  The picture challenge officially begins accepting pictures on Monday March 28, 2011 and will be open until Friday June 17, 2011.  The pictures will be judged by the Community Development Committee based on creativity, composition, and impact.  The winners will be announced on July 1st at the Canada Day event in the Terrace Bay Arena and prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners as well as two honourable mentions in each category
