MARATHON, ON – Wednesday, April 6th, St. John’s United Church hosted the first Candidates’ Night for candidates of the federal riding of Thunder Bay-Superior North.  The evening was well attended, approximately 200 in attendance, by residents of Marathon & Pic River First Nation and even a few constituents from the nearby community of Schreiber.

Candidates were respectful of the moderator, each other and the audience; the latter had opportunity to address questions to the incumbent, NDP candidate, MP Bruce Hyer; Liberal candidate Yves Fricot, PC candidate Richard Harvey and Green Party candidate Scot Kyle. Among those who queried candidates were several residents of Pic River First Nation including the Hon. Chief Roy Michano.  OntarioNewsNorth.com provided a live broadcast of the evening thanks to an internet connection provided by the Church (the internet connection was, unfortunately, weak, causing some very brief pauses  in coverage – none the less it is available to view in the Video On Demand Library).  Candidate Yves Fricot contracted OntarioNewsNorth.com to also record a seperate video of the evening, this is the result of that videography. (Unfortunately the closing remarks are not included, this is a great reminder that a minimum of one week is required when booking videography of events to ensure they will be captured in their entirety).

3 of the 4 candidates chose to also participate in individual interviews after the event, links to those videos, recorded live, are available below.

Constituents in the riding of Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing please note that the Candidates’ Night for your riding will be broadcast Live! on OntarioNewsNorth.com, Thursday, April 28th at 6:30pm from the Manitouwadge High School theatre in Manitouwadge.  CFNO’s News Director, Al Cresswell, will mediate this event, which has been organized by political activist and volunteer, Natalie Labbee (Manitouwadge).
