TBDHU – Local Schools “Share, Inspire, Celebrate”

Today, students, teachers, school administrators and other members of the school community celebrated their successes in creating healthier school environments during the first annual Share, Inspire, Celebrate event hosted by the TBDHU’s Healthy Schools team.

Highlighting their experiences with health promotion projects, events, and policies, presenters shared ideas and knowledge about effective school-based practices for improving health.

“Schools play an important role in creating a healthy Thunder Bay, and each school follows the path to health uniquely,” says Lori Molendyk, Manager of Healthy Families/Healthy Communities at the TBDHU. “This event is a great opportunity to connect with our school communities, celebrate together their many successes and learn from their particular stories.”

A few examples of the many projects presented included a cooking program for kids, a student health advocacy group, and peer leadership opportunities for students. Through these examples, there was opportunity to learn how people worked together and how they overcame challenges to achieve success.

“The energy and enthusiasm we are seeing today is a key ingredient in moving forward towards our goal of creating the healthiest schools possible, within Thunder Bay,” Molendyk adds.

The event will be held annually to inspire more innovative initiatives and acknowledge those people leading the charge towards healthy school environments.
