UPDATE: SEARCH FOR MISSING FISHERMAN UNDERWAY

UPDATE

NIPIGON, ON –The search for a missing male of Bloomington, Minnesota is underway on Lake Superior in the Condon Island area.  Members of the Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the OPP North West Region Emergency Response Team and the Canadian Coast Guard have been searching for a missing male since he was reported overdue yesterday evening.

June 16 at approximately 8:55 p.m. members of the Nipigon OPP Detachment received details of an 80 year old male who had not returned to his camp at Kama Point, Township of Patience after going fishing on Lake Superior earlier that morning.  Family and friends of the male began to search for him when he did not return to camp in the afternoon and recovered his boat at the mouth of the Jackfish River.

Police were contacted and currently there are two OPP marine units, two Coast Guard vessels, and one Coast Guard helicopter actively searching for the missing person.  The search and the investigation are continuing.

UPDATE:

On June 18, 2011, Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Underwater Search and Recovery Unit attended the Nipigon/Red Rock area and in particular the area of Lake Superior that it was believed that the missing male was fishing.  The body of Ronald Lee HILSEN, age 80 of Bloomington, Minnesota was recovered.

The investigation of the cause of death is continuing.
