SUMMERFEST

Summerfest! A weeklong festival filled with daily activities for the whole family to enjoy. An event so big it could not be ignored- so we partnered with Summerfest to participate in a number of activities. Below is a summary of each activity that we were involved in;

Summerfest Open Market: Due to the rain last year, this year’s market took place under a giant tent. Unfortunately, the weather still did not cooperate producing a thick cool fog seemingly only in the area of the market. This, however, did not deter many people from coming and checking out the several tables containing a range of products from soaps, to books, wine, candles, baking and much more! At our table, we had pre-made bags of our delicious popcorn as well as some of our popular gums and candies and our line of designer sunglasses. There was still a great turnout despite the weather, so kudos to Ashley Riendeau and the other volunteers for making the event a success! Look for Crossover Video and Games to have a table at next year’s market as well!

Teddy Bear Auction:  Monday, July 4  a Teddy Bear auction was held at the Marathon Rec Hall. Each business in town, as well as individuals, were asked to purchase a Teddy Bear and to decorate it to represent their business. We contributed a Teddy Bear that I nicknamed Bolt. Look for Bolt’s picture in this article! Each Teddy Bear was then auctioned off to the highest bidder. When all was said and done, 2700 dollars was raised for cancer research/services in Marathon and Thunder Bay district!

Drive In Movie Night (Sponsored by Crossover): The images of Yogi Bear covered the giant inflatable screen, as over 80 vehicles and hundreds of people lined the rear parking lot of DH Foods for this year’s Drive In Movie Night. Organizer Andre Paris said that he was pleased with the turnout and was encouraged by the support for the event. The Marathon Gymnastics Club, B&B Variety and yours truly were all on hand with concession items. We had our popcorn machine on site and ended up popping over 100 bags of popcorn- a complete sell-out! Needless to say, we’ll have more popcorn on hand for next year’s drive in! Judging by the smiles on the kid’s faces, and the full parking lot, this event was a HUGE success! Look for it to be even bigger and better next year!

Gaming Day: June 7th at 6pm, gamers will be flocking to Crossover for Gaming Day. Due to unforeseen circumstances, what was supposed to be a full fledged tournament, has been turned into a “free play” format. Gamers can come in and play a game of their choice for as long as they please against whoever they please! Best of all- it’s totally free! Check back in next week’s Crossover Insider for a report on the turn-out of Gaming Day…

UPDATES

The new sign at Crossover Video & Games. Photo courtesy Tyler Davis

If you happen to drive by our store you’ll probably notice a welcomed new site- a sign! After 6 months, we finally have a sign above our store. The wait was due in part to weather (waiting for appropriate conditions for the decals to stick) and the difficulty in finding someone to put the sign up. A big thank you goes out to Mitch of A&M Enterprises in Marathon for accepting the job and for doing a fantastic job! It seems so much more official now actually having a sign!

Have a safe week and don’t forget to support your local businesses!
