MANITOUWADGE, ON – Tuesday, April 10th a group of about a dozen participants gathered at the Best Start Centre for an Adult Cooking Class focused on the ‘art’ of making perogies.  Good company and great instruction paired to make for an enjoyable, educational evening as Amanda Beraskin taught the women in attendance how to make their own perogies from SCRATCH!

Funding for the program was provided by “The Northern Family Food and Fitness Revolution” Healthy Communities Fund sponsored by the Ministry of Health Promotion in partnership with the Family Place – Best Start Centre (Best Start Hub).  Program Coordinator Kristy Lachance was pleased with the response to this first-time program saying that, should funding for a similar evening be available again, she would certainly like to see the Hub offer more healthy cooking classes “We were glad to be able to offer the program thanks to the Northern Family Food and Fitness Revolution Funding and I’m really pleased with so many ladies coming out to learn a new recipe to share with their families” said Lachance.

Participants seemed to agree that a highlight of the evening was the opportunity to bring home their fresh perogies and allow loved ones an opportunity to critique the success of their treats.

The Manitouwadge Best Start Centre is a great place for parents and children to spend time. The activities at the centre encourage and enhance parent/child relationships, promote early learning and development and provide an opportunity for people to meet and socialize with other families.
