Mayor & Council Request Submission of Comments to Electoral Boundaries Commission

Thursday, April 26, 2012

UNDER the Constitution of Canada, the Federal Electoral Districts are to be reviewed after each decennial (10 years) census to reflect the changes and movements in Canada’s population to which all citizens of Manitouwadge are requested to have their voice heard.

At the Regular Council meeting of February 22, 2012, Council Resolution #2012-72, was passed requesting that the Corporation of the Township of Manitouwadge be removed from the Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing District and put into the Thunder Bay-Superior North District.

This change is requested by the Corporation of the Township of Manitouwadge as all dealings with all government bodies for the Township are dealt with in the Thunder Bay District and not the Algoma District. The Mayor and Council would like to encourage all Manitouwadge Citizens to help us with this endeavor by having your voices heard by emailing or by mailing your comments to the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Ontario:

Concerned that there were only 4 days (1 business day) remaining between the township’s press release and the submission deadline of April 30th,  OntarioNewsNorth.com contacted the Town Clerk and she provided the reply below. OntarioNewsNorth.com had also published a notice in regards to submitting comments on April 19th, 2012 in addition to interviews with Mayor MacEachern and MP Carol Hughes on the topic. CLERK’s REPLY:

Please be advised that I spoke with the Ontario Commission and if the residents do not have time to submit their comments before April 30/12, there will be a second opportunity of an additional 30 days to do so after the Ontario Commission publishes the proposal.

Thank you,

Cecile Kerster
