CRIMINAL CHARGES LAID IN RELATION TO HISTORICAL INCIDENTS

THUNDER BAY, ON –The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Crime Unit has been investigating numerous reports of sexual offences against a male who worked in a number of First Nations communities in Northwestern Ontario. These investigations were initiated in 1994 and the accused was last charged by police in 2009. Since 2009 new information has come forward which has been thoroughly investigated by the OPP.

On April 22, 2012 Ralph ROWE, a 72-year-old male residing in Surrey, British Columbia was charged with two counts of Indecent Assault on a male contrary to section 156 of the Criminal Code, and five counts of Sexual Assault contrary to section 246.1 of the Criminal Code.  The charges relate to incidents which occurred between 1973 and 1986 on the First Nations communities of Fort Severn, Big Trout Lake, Wunnumin Lake and Kingfisher Lake.

The accused was served a summons by a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on May 31, 2012.
