Green Tradeshow Continues to Grow

It was another successful year for the Township of Terrace Bay with its 2012 Green Tradeshow attracting visitors from throughout the region. The event was held for the fifth time on Saturday May 5 from 12pm to 4pm in the Terrace Bay Arena. Organizers say the event attracted approximately 750 visitors with a significant amount coming from outside of Terrace Bay and Schreiber. The Tradeshow was at full capacity with 80 exhibitor tables and showcased four energy efficient vehicles to the public. The Tradeshow featured the 2012 Chevy Volt, the electric car that has won awards for its innovative design. Other exhibitor booths encompassed a range of green ideas including solar panels, education and awareness, outdoor experiences, green products and services, and ways to live a healthier lifestyle. Another new feature was the kids craft area that utilized recyclable materials to build tin can robots, plastic bottle bird feeders and more. The event was organized by a 12 person volunteer committee with help from the local schools and residents. Chief Administrative Officer Carmelo Notarbartolo says “We are extremely proud of the efforts of our volunteers and staff. It takes an incredible amount of work to hold the Green Tradeshow, but it is easy to see the benefits. We are also very thankful for the variety in exhibitor booths we receive every year. Some exhibitors travel from as far away as Toronto, White River and Upsala in addition to a large number of Thunder Bay based exhibitors.” The Green Tradeshow has grown from 10 exhibitor tables in 2007 to being one of the largest green themed events of its type in Northern Ontario. The Tradeshow fits well with the Township of Terrace Bay’s commitment to environmentally friendly initiatives outlined in its strategic plan. The marketing activities for the 2012 Green Tradeshow were made possible by a Superior North CFDC Local Initiatives Contribution. The Local Initiatives Contribution program is funded by FedNor. The Green Tradeshow also accepted food donations in lieu of an admission fee and almost filled the back of a 2012 Sierra Extended Cab on display from Spadoni Motors Ltd. The Township of Terrace Bay would like to thank all those who attended and look forward to another Green Tradeshow in 2013.  For more information and pictures, visit www.greentradeshow.ca
