Marathon/Schreiber OPP Seek Public Assistance Following Gas Theft in Wawa

TERRACE BAY, ON – Monday August 20, 2012 officers with the Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised that a dark grey Dodge Caravan bearing an unknown marker was travelling westbound on Highway #17 from the White River area. Officers were advised that the vehicle was involved in a theft of gas incident at a service station in Wawa and that the vehicle had failed to stop for police.

Marathon officers observed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle on Highway # 17 east of Marathon at the Black River. Officers activated their emergency lights and siren but the vehicle failed to stop for police. Subsequently, two spike belts were deployed at two locations between Pic River and Peninsula Road with negative results. The van continued travelling westbound at high rates of speed.

The location of the van is unknown at this time. It has been confirmed that the vehicle is being driven by an Asian male. There is at least one female occupant in the vehicle.

If the dark grey Caravan is observed, do not approach the occupants or vehicle. Contact police by calling 911 or 1-888-310-1122.
