OPP Warn of Traffic Delays in Wawa Area

WAWA, ON – The Superior East OPP Wawa Detachment is issuing a traffic advisory for all motorists traveling in the Wawa area on Hwy 101 or Hwy 17 to expect delays in this vicinity today (Dec.29.2012).

The OPP has become aware that a peaceful protest is planned in keeping with the “Idle No More” movement.  All highways in the Wawa area remain open, but motorists in this area can expect traffic delays until the rally ends later today.

The OPP respects the democratic freedom of any group to assemble for a peaceful purpose as defined in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

The OPP is focused on maintaining public safety and sustaining lawfulness during this event.

The OPP is anticipating that the organizers of this rally will conduct this protest in such a way that no reduction in the level of service provided by emergency responders (police, fire or ambulance) will occur as a result of this peaceful assembly.
