It’s that time of the year; when all of the “Twi-Hards” gather in droves and flock to stores to pick up the latest installment of the massively popular Twilight franchise. It will be a bittersweet day for Twilight fans who will be overjoyed to add Breaking Dawn Part 2 to their collection, but presumably upset that this is supposedly the final movie of the franchise.

There are a total of six new releases this week with a brief write up of each below;

NEW RELEASES ON DVD & BLU-RAY

Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2: starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner – AVAILABLE SATURDAY, MARCH 2ND! After the birth of Renesmee, the Cullen’s gather other vampire clans in order to protect the child from false allegations that result in the family having to face the Volturi. (Drama/Adventure) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

Chasing Mavericks: starring Gerard Butler – Based on a True Story! A young surfer discovers that one of the biggest waves on Earth exists just miles from home, and enlists the help of a local surfing legend to train him to survive it. (Drama) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

The Factory: starring John Cusack and Jennifer Carpenter – A detective is assigned to work a case of a serial kidnapper wreaking havoc in Buffalo. But when his daughter becomes the latest victim, things become personal and the detective will stop at nothing to save her. (Crime/Thriller) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

Company of Heroes: starring Tom Sizemore and Vinnie Jones – During WW2, a team of American soldiers discover that Hitler has a super bomb in development. Against all odds, they set out to find the scientist in charge of the program in hopes of stopping Hitler before it’s too late! (War) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

EDITOR’s NOTE:The only trailer found was French but the movie for rent at Crossover & 2DD is English.

Perfect Sense: starring Ewan McGregor and Eva Green– An unlikely romance develops during an apocalyptic bio-hazardous outbreak that is robbing people of their senses. (Drama/Romance) (DVD)

War of the Dead: A platoon of American and Finnish soldiers is driven deep into a Russian forest where they discover that zombies are lurking in the darkness! (Horror) (DVD)

TYLER’s OSCAR PREDICTIONS/RESULTS

Last week, I put on my “Movie Guru” hat and made some predictions as to who would take home the Academy Award trophies in the acting categories. Well let’s see how I fared:

ACTOR IN A SUPPORING ROLE:

THE WINNER: Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook)

So there you have it, 3 out 4- not too bad, but next year I’m aiming for a perfect 4 out of 4!

The other big winner of the night was Argo which took home the honors for Best Picture beating out a slew of big names including Django Unchained, Silver Linings Playbook, Lincoln and Life of Pi. Argo, based on a true story about some incredible Canadian heroes, stars Ben Affleck and is available now (on DVD and Blu-Ray) at Crossover Video and Games in Marathon and 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!
