HWY 627 Stop Results in Driver Charged with Over 80

MARATHON ON – Thursday April 25, 2013 at approximately 12:35 am, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marathon detachment were dispatched to assist the Anishinabek Police Service (APS) with an incident in Pic River First Nation Territory.

An OPP officer stopped one involved person driving on Hwy 627 near Heron Bay, ON. The male was questioned regarding his involvement to the previous incident and the officer detected an odour of alcohol on the male’s breath as he spoke. The male was requested to provide a sample of his breath into a roadside screening device and the instrument registered a fail. As a result the male was arrested for driving a motor vehicle with Over 80 mgs of alcohol in his blood.

Wayne TWANCE, 43 years old, from Pic River First Nation was escorted to the Marathon OPP detachment and provided further breath samples into an Intoxilyzer instrument. TWANCE was charged with Over 80 and released with a court appearance in Marathon on June 26, 2013.

As a result of the drinking and driving charge, the accused had his vehicle impounded for 7 days and his licence suspended for 90 days.
