MANITOUWADGE, ON – Tuesday, June 18th the Manitouwadge High School Athletic Association’s annual awards banquet was held at the school.  Once again Wayne Pittman’s Hospitality Class catered the event as part of their final exam and they did not dissapoint, supper was absolutely delicious!

MHSAA President Hudson Hunter began the evening with an opening address which included his reflections on the challenges and successes of the past season, watch the highlight video below for that and many other meaningful speeches from the evening including Guest Speaker, retired teacher G.G.Jones who joined the event via FaceTime and Superior-Greenstone District School Board Director of Education David Tamblyn who led a round of applause thanking parents, coaches/volunteers and Mr. Pittman and his class for their culinary talents.

Among OntarioNewsNorth.com Editor Karina Hunter’s favourite moments of the evening was Mrs. Adenola Bodunde, Mother of Damilola, who graciously accepted the many awards presented to her son as he was in Toronto with the Senior Band performing at the Festival of Music at Canada’s Wonderland.  Another great moment was Volunteer Coach John Oliviera’s speech about his Boys Soccer Team who were named as Manitouwadge High School’s 2013 Team of the Year. Oliviera told attendees that he had not chosen any one person to name as the most dedicated, most improved or most sportsmanlike player explaining that, were it not for having an entire team of committed, sportsmanlike and constantly improving players they would not have had such an enjoyable season.  Instead Oliviera took a few seconds to recognize one or two of the special qualities of each member of the team before announcing the MVPs.  His pride in the entire team and the sincere appreication he seemed to have for everyone of the young stars was very touching (unfortunately his speech is only partially captured in the highlights below though if you bump into Oliviera on the street this summer I’d bet he’d be more than happy to tell you about the talents of each one of the Boys Soccer Team members if you ask!).
