MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday, June 8th Manitouwadge Ontario Provincial Police Detachment held their annual Bike Rodeo with the support of sponsors and local volunteers. The rodeo was also a Pit Stop for Segment 3 of the Manitouwadge Family Health Team’s Amazing Walk II which meant at least one member from each of the 44 teams still participating in the challenge, was required to attend.

Kids under 16yrs of age enjoyed participating in a safety course which included a number of stations where volunteers including;  TBDHU  Public Health Nurse David Green, RN; OPP officers; Superior EMS Manitouwadge Base employees; Manitouwadge Volunteer Firefighters; Thunder Bay District Crimestoppers-Manitouwadge volunteers and Manitouwadge High School volunteers Liane Morin and Jamie Thompson.  Among the stations riders made their way through were;

  • Helmet fit and condition check
  • Starting/stopping safely
  • Avoiding obstacles
  • Safe road riding simulation
  • Helmet demonstration
and of course all those who successfully made their way through the course received certificates of completion from the Manitouwadge OPP detachment.
In addition to the rodeo happening inside the arena, participants and their families enjoyed a free BBQ held outside in the recreation centre rear parking lot. The rodeo wound up with draws for great prizes from Freehawk Enterprises (Manitouwadge Outdoor and Bike retailer), there were prizes for EVERY child who participated! Crimestoppers also drew names for give-a-ways for some of the adults.
