NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO – CBC News reports that the dog, a schnauzer, credited with saving his owner’s life by allowing him time to escape a bear attack has unfortunately perished from his injuries.
Ministry of Natural Resources officials report that the bear has, since originally being caught in a live trap Monday morning (Click for OPP report), been destroyed, and sent to Guelph for tests. In addition to testing the bear for rabies, the bear’s stomach contents will also be checked to confirm it was the bear from the attack.
NOTE: Though this incident was unprovoked police remind the public to be cautious around wild animals. Please do not feed wild animals and keep your distance. They are unpredictable and could be very dangerous.
