-UPDATE- SUSPECTS AT LARGE NEAR WILLIAMS MINE ON HIGHWAY 17

-UPDATE- All Suspects in Custody

MARATHON, ON – Monday August 5, 2013 at approximately 3:55pm a vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 17 in Bomby Township at a high rate of speed was observed by police. The emergency lights were activated by police and a vehicle stop was initiated. The vehicle slowed but prior to coming to a stop, two male passengers fled from the vehicle into the bush near Williams Mine east of Marathon Ontario. The driver of the vehicle was arrested without incident at the scene.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit were dispatched to the area to assist in locating the two males.

At approximately 8:55 pm, the second male was arrested without incident while walking along Highway 17 near Cigar Lake.

The third male was apprehended on Tuesday August 6, 2013 shortly after 7:00 am by the ERT and Canine teams in the vicinity of the initial vehicle stop.

The three males in custody are:

  1. Steven TAYLOR, 23 years, from Kitchener Ontario. He was the driver of the vehicle and was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and numerous Highway Traffic Act offences. He will appear in Marathon court on September 12, 2013.
  2. Johnathan DEROZARIO, 20 years, from Kitchener Ontario. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and will appear in Marathon court on September 12, 2013.
  3. A 22 year old male from Kitchener, Ontario. Charges are pending.

The investigation is continuing.
