Terrace Bay Continues to Work Towards Cost Savings

Over the past 6 months, Administration for the Township of Terrace Bay has been working hard to identify ways to cut costs and streamline operations.  The LED Streetlight replacement project is almost complete and is expected to save approximately $40,000 a year in electricity and maintenance. The Municipality also recently made adjustments to its telephone system at all Municipal Buildings by entering into longer term contracts and selecting different phone line options.  The changes to the phone system is one of the recommendations from a recent Telephone and Internet system review the Municipality undertook which is expected to save up to $15,000 annually.  The Municipality also recently entered into a bulk buying program for electricity that is offered to Municipalities in another attempt to reduce costs.  New Terrace Bay Chief Administrative Officer Jon Hall says “Although we are always looking to save money, our Council has been proactive in making it a high priority for Administration to look outside the box when it comes to cost savings.  We know the Municipality is facing some real challenges as a result of the recent tax reassessment and we are trying to limit the impact as much as possible.” The Municipality will be hosting a public forum on Monday March 17th at 6:30pm to further discuss some of the proposed plans for the Township as a result of the tax assessment loss with the Moving Forward Plan.
