Thunder Bay Man Fined $1,500 for Shooting on Road

mnrA Thunder Bay man has pleaded guilty to illegally shooting his firearm while on a road.

Eugenio Berardi was fined $1,500 under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act for the offence. In addition to the fine, Berardi is banned from hunting in Ontario for a year.

Court heard that Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers contacted Berardi on November 7, 2013, on Silver Falls Road near Kaministiquia, northwest of Thunder Bay. Upon investigation, they learned that Berardi had earlier spotted a deer while driving on the same road, got out of his vehicle and shot the animal from the roadway.

Berardi’s rifle was seized and will be returned once his fine is paid. The deer was forfeited to the Crown and donated to a local food distribution program.

Justice of the Peace Ray Zuliani heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Thunder Bay, on February 5, 2014.

The ministry reminds hunters that it is illegal to shoot from, down or across a public road. For further information on hunting regulations, please consult the Ontario Hunting Regulations Summary, available at ontario.ca/hunting.
