Wednesday, October 5th, 2022 Manitouwadge High School welcomed Nipigon-Red Rock District
High School for an NSSSAA sports day. Family, friends and fans came to cheer on
the Wolverines and enjoy delicious treats and lunch at the canteen.

The day kicked off with a game between the Nip-Rock Lakers Senior Girls and the
Manitouwadge Wolverines Varsity Girls basketball teams. After an energetic warm-up, the game
began with loud cheers from both sides of the audience. The game continued to pick up speed as it
went on. The Wolverines’ Varsity Basketball Team Captain, Ryleigh Clark, scored an
impressive 33% of the shots, while her teammates also came through with breakaways and successful foul shots. The Lakers played with great effort and commitment however, the Wolverines stole the show with a 46 to 9 win, for their second consecutive win of the season.

Next was an exciting game of Junior Boys’ volleyball. While the Wolverines won the first set by
15 points, the Nip-Rock Lakers brought more force and the next set was much closer. After
suspenseful rallies, the second set wrapped up with a 25-20 win for the Manitouwadge junior
boys. Finally, the teams displayed great sportsmanship and played an exhibition set for fun,
ending in yet another excellent win for Manitouwadge, 20-6!

With a surprise visit from the Wolverines mascot, the Senior Boys’ volleyball game was soon
underway. The Manitouwadge Senior Boys’ Volleyball Team played with intensity and energy,
ending the first set at 25 points, while the Nip-Rock Lakers came out with 12 points. The second
set continued the display of great plays and was certainly exciting for the spectators! Finally the
Wolverines won the final, exhibition set, for yet another success.

Ending the day on a high note before the Nip-Rock Lakers hit the road, the junior boys’ teams faced off in a fun exhibition game.

The Manitouwadge High School Athletic Association would like to extend a sincere thank you to the dedicated volunteers from the parent council and the members of the Athletic Association, who generously gave their time to make the canteen possible, to the coaches who give their time guiding the teams to success, to the volunteer referees and officials without whom sports days would not be possible and finally to the parents, friends and family who fill the stands on game day in support of our student-athletes.

We hope you’ll join us, October 18th, for the next sports day being hosted by Manitouwadge Manitouwadge High School. (watch the OntarioNewsNorth.com ticker for event reminders)
