Masterpieces Inspired by Literature at St.Martin

TERRACE BAY, ON – On the afternoon of January 27, 2011 the students, staff, and parents of St. Martin School celebrated Family Literacy Day.  The afternoon began with our Trustee, Art Szczepaniak reading Robert Munsch’s new book “Moose” to staff, students, and parents.  The students’ were then placed into multi-aged groups and travelled to a station where a teacher led the students and their families in creating a masterpiece depicting their favourite book.   Mid-way through the first activity we re-assembled for the next story, “A Chickadee Feeling”; the first half read aloud to the group by grandmother, Ann Ray.  As students completed their individual masterpieces it was wonderful to see the enthusiasm, cooperation, and creativity present at each station and within each group.  Upon the completion of the activity the remainder of the story was read aloud by Officer Paul Michtics. All students, parents, and grandparents were entered in a draw for a Reading Basket and we congratulate Maddie Winters who was the lucky winner!!

A Love of Reading is definitely alive and can be seen by the Literature Trees that adorn the entrance of St. Martin School.
