GREENSTONE, ON –The Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind people that there are no guarantees in nature, especially regarding ice conditions. Only careful planning, experience and caution can guarantee a safe ice experience.

With the beginning of an unusually warm March the OPP encourages people to take extra care on lakes and rivers and ensure good ice conditions before venturing onto them.

Keep in mind that the actions of someone who chooses to risk their life by venturing onto lakes with unsafe ice conditions also risks the lives of emergency personnel, volunteers and at times good Samaritans trying to help. The OPP are asking everyone to always keep safety in mind and stay off of unsafe ice. It is not worth your life and it is not worth the life of someone trying to help you. If you have any concern about ice conditions, it is better to stay off and live to ride or fish another day.
