Egg Crafts

Emeraude and I (and Lloyd too when he cooked) have been saving egg shells for quite some time now in anticipation of Easter crafting. We have also been stockpiling our eggs cartons (thank goodness because as I’ll get to in a later post, they will save me in the morning lol). Today, we decided to blow out some of our eggs, I found some helpful tips about that afterwards (click here for egg preparation tips) when Emeraude had gone for her nap and see what kind of gift we could make out of them for Emeraude’s teachers. I had hoped to have time to craft some baskets as well but there is only so much time in a day and between the family place this morning, our egg crafts, finishing up the pinata, Lloyd helping her crack open her ‘dinosaur egg’ another great project she brought home from Nursery School a couple weeks ago, shopping for her friend Blake’s birthday gift his party is on Friday and we might be at Macutagen by then so needed to pick it up and me trying to fit in some work between all that (I actually managed to get quite a bit accomplished somehow including delivering a letter to the Director of Leisure Services requesting to do the youth soccer program photos again this year, I have not in a recent years as my health was not timing out well for it, which I am really pumped about) we never got around to even considering what type of baskets we might weave lol. but WOW! it was a great day :)So, I talked a little about our egg craft from the ones we blew out this afternoon in This POST (same link as above, 3rd paragraph is where you will want to read) and here are some photos from that…Emeraude very carefully places a nose one of our bunnies.

Emeraude had the idea of using the other little wodden peices from the bag as noses (clever girl).

Another nose. I really love watching my children use their hands. Even Lloyd, whose hands have been larger than mine for quite some time, makes me speechless when I look at his beautfiul, talented strong hands - I made those!

Well, the bunnies dried well and their ears seem quite sturdy.  I wasn’t sure how well they would hold as there wasn’t a lot for the glue to adhere to. I tried to ‘saw’ the slit as evenly as possible using a larger paring knife but eggs are fragile – HHAHAHAHA who would’ve thunk it! ha – and little peice broke off as I went making the edge quite serated. We had a lot of fun adding their whiskers {white yarn}; tails {Emeraude made these quite varied chosing cotton balls, and different size/colours of pompoms }; and eyes {again, she added a lot of personality to them by varying sizes of google eyes for each} we used white glue for these peices and with Emeraude being a big fan of goop and dripping goop we were pretty sticky by the end. Nothing, of course, compared to how messy things became when we worked on our ‘chicks!! Too fun 🙂 I love crafting with my girl!!
(Lloyd used to be a ton of fun to craft with but  has outgrown it for the most part. He is still open to a bit of crafting if his sister asks – not much he won’t do with a smile for Emeraude lol.)
I was so wrapped up in our crafting with the bunnies as that I did not take any photos of while we worked on them the 2nd time. when Emeraude & I called it a night I could’ve taken a pic of them in the carton again with the new peices added but did not think of it as Emeraude had started singing and had me enthralled lol (she makes up her own songs about whatever is going on at the time and I really just sit back and enjoy the performance – I never know what tune she might come up with or what the lyrics will be like so she has me on the edge of my seat throughout :).

As for the bunnies, they are still missing their buck-teeth and smiles I’m not sure if we will be adding those in the morning or if she will decide they are complete – I will leave that choice to her.

The chickies we made with our saved shells and cotton balls will be in their own post so check back for that one soon 🙂 here’s a little ‘sneak peek’ lol…
